If you want to alter, cover, or even completely wipe the “regret of it all” ink that you have, there
is an alternative to laser treatments now available in the Upper Peninsula at SKN Marquette.

Laser tattoo removal utilizes pulses of light to heat up the subdermal pigment and break it into
smaller particles that are carried off into the body by white blood cells. Calling laser treatment
“removal” is really overstated, as it only drives ink deeper into your body, not truly removing it.
Some colors are more easily affected by laser treatment than others; the most challenging are
whites, pinks, blues, yellows and purples. Colors like yellow #7 are known to break down into
toxins that can find their way to the lymphatic system, lymph nodes, kidneys, liver and spleen.

SKN Marquette uses a patented process that creates a series of micro-wounds in a precisely
spaced pattern. A proprietary solution is then introduced into the micro-wounds and the
body's natural wound healing process takes over; bringing the tattoo ink that has been
encapsulated into the scab up through the skin. This process has been coined “Trans
Epidermal Pigment Release®” (TEPR®) and is based on the body’s escharotic wound healing
response.

Frequently Asked Questions

About how long does it take in between each treatment?
It is frequently 8 weeks, but for some people it takes 10-12 weeks between treatments.

On average, when could I expect to have the tattoo totally removed?
With regular removals being scheduled every 8 weeks, most tattoos can be removed in 5-8
months, but complete healing takes a year or a little more.

How much does it hurt?
The process is very similar to having a tattoo applied; therefore, you can expect about the
same amount of discomfort as when your initial tattoo was placed.

Will it cause hypo pigmentation or scarring?
Hypopigmentation or scarring can be unpredictable and is dependent on many factors.  A test
spot is recommended for darker skin tones or people with a history of scarring.  Certified
technicians have been trained to avoid any possible hypopigmentation or scarring however
every individual is different and although we have not experienced any major scarring issues
there can be no guarantee. Strictly following the aftercare instructions also reduces the risk of
hypopigmentation or scarring. Individuals who have provided an accurate physical history,
followed after-care instructions, and had a test spot removed minimize the possibility of
hypopigmentation or scarring and most go on to have acceptable results.
